The study entitled, “Competitive Gain in the Ocean Supply Chain: Innovation That’s Driving Maritime Operational Transformation” and completed by BPI (Business Performance Innovation) in collaboration with NVIS and XVELA, examines and debates how the logistical chain and maritime supply is facing the challenges and technological challenges and the new business models of the industry. The study also deepens the need to improve the legacy infrastructure and explores what technologies could improve the efficiency of operations.
The results and conclusions of the study highlight the importance of (1) increasing collaboration among the agents involved; (2) improve the efficiency of operations and; (3) improve visibility and transparency throughout the logistics chain.
They also consider the possibility of having access to real-time information on logistics operations and processes of extreme importance and considers technologies such as Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Services, and the implementation of new management systems or the automation of processes would contribute, to a large extent, to improving the inefficiencies detected.
The results of the study are based on a survey of more than 200 executives and professionals of terminal operators, transporters, logistics providers, ship owners, port authorities, consignees and other members of the supply chain.
To conclude, the study indicates that the adaptation process may be slow, but according to the opinions of experts included in the study, a clear intention can already be seen to adopt new measures and solutions and initiate a much-needed transformation process in the sector.

El estudio, titulado «Competitive Gain in the Ocean Supply Chain: Innovation That’s Driving Maritime Operational Transformation» y realizado por BPI (Business Performance Innovation) en colaboración con Navis y XVELA, examina y se sumerge en el debate de como la cadena logística y de suministro marítima se enfrenta a los retos y desafíos tecnológicos y a los nuevos modelos de negocio de la industria. El estudio, además, profundiza en la necesidad de mejorar la infraestructura heredada y explora qué tecnologías podrían mejorar la eficiencia de las operaciones.
Los resultados y conclusiones del estudio subrayan la importancia de: (1) incrementar la colaboración entre agentes involucrados; (2) mejorar la eficiencia de las operaciones y; (3) mejorar la visibilidad y transparencia a lo largo de la cadena logística. Asimismo, consideran de extrema importancia la posibilidad de tener acceso a información en tiempo real de las operaciones y procesos logísticos y considera que tecnologías como Big Data, Internet de las Cosas (IoT), Servicios en la nube (Cloud Services), la implementación de nuevos sistemas de gestión o la automatización de los procesos contribuirían, en gran medida, a mejorar las ineficiencias detectadas.
Los resultados del estudio parten de una encuesta realizada a más de 200 ejecutivos y profesionales de operadores de terminales, transportistas, proveedores logísticos, propietarios de buques, autoridades portuarias, consignatarios y otros miembros de la cadena de suministro.
Para concluir, el estudio indica que el cambio y proceso de adaptación puede ser lento, pero según las opiniones de expertos incluidas en el estudio, ya se puede apreciar una clara intención para adoptar nuevas medidas y soluciones e iniciar un proceso de transformación muy necesario en el sector.
